Internationally acclaimed orchestral clarinetist soloists join Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Edward Polochick, in a special concert featuring some of the world’s favorite clarinet concerti. Chicago Symphony Orchestra clarinetist Gregory Smith begins the program with Claude Debussy’s Premiere Rhapsodie, followed by W.A. Mozart’s Concerto in A, K 622 with Jessica Phillips Rieske, acting principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Belgian/Flemish clarinetist Eddy Vanoosthuyse closes the concert with American composer Scott McAllister’s dazzler, X Concerto.
Clarinetists from around the world come to perform a variety of chamber music with string quartet/quintet. British clarinetist David Campbell presents Richard Blackford’s Full Moon; Karel Dohnal, from the Czech Republic, performs the charming Clarinettino by Ondrej Kukal; American bass clarinetist Dennis Smylie plays York Bowen’s Phantasy-Quintet, and Polish clarinetist Jan Jakub Bokun presents several works by Ástor Piazzolla and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso by Morricone. Local musicians David Neely (violin), Donna Carnes (violin), Clark Potter (viola), Karen Becker (cello) and Hans Sturm (bass) form the ClarinetFest® String Quartet/Quintet for this evening of chamber music for clarinet and strings.
