Alexander Fiterstein, clarinet, 7:00 pm

Winner of a 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant Award, Alexander Fiterstein has been praised by The New York Times for possessing a “beautiful liquid clarity,” and The Washington Post wrote, “Fiterstein treats his instrument as his own personal voice, dazzling in its spectrum of colors, agility and range. Every sound he makes is finely measured without inhibiting expressiveness.” Joined by collaborative pianist Michael Brown, the duo will present a wide array of musical selections, including the world premiere of Tarras Tribute by Ljova Zhurbin.

Corrado Giuffredi, David Krakauer and Friends, 8:30 pm

Principal Clarinetist of the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Corrado Giuffredi has performed in numerous concerts and international festivals with Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala under Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim. Together with accordionist Cesare Chiacchiaretta, you will delight in the original interpretations of this eclectic ensemble featured on this evening’s performance. As a special treat, Giuffredi and Chiacchiaretta will be joined by acclaimed principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Ricardo Morales, for a performance of a Mendelssohn Concertpiece. Acclaimed for his mastery of Eastern European Jewish klezmer music, David Krakauer is featured on this concert in the premiere of a new work for clarinet with 9-piece bass clarinet ensemble by composer Ghislain Hervet. Described by the New York Times as “a breathtakingly flamboyant clarinetist, racing through every octave of his instrument and turning trills into laughs or cries of anguish”, Krakauer concludes the concert with several klezmer selections in collaboration with Giuffredi and Chiacchiaretta.
