Melodies From Spain

After the orchestra opens with Manuel de Falla’s El sombrero de tres picos (The Three-Cornered Hat), LSO principal clarinetist Diane Barger alternates between Bb and Eb clarinets to perform Óscar Navarro’s dazzling “III Concerto” for Clarinet. Following intermission, LSO performs Suite No. 2 from Bizet’s famous opera Carmen and Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral suite based on Spanish folk melodies, Capriccio Espagnole.
